Volunteers at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Carrollton are compassionate, knowledgeable and resourceful individuals united with a common goal of supporting the mission and vision of the health care system.

How do Volunteers Serve?

  • Serve patients, visitors and employees in the volunteer-supported information desk
  • Provide comfort items and assistance to patients and their families
  • Assist staff on nursing units
  • Deliver mail, flowers and e-mail to patients
  • Escort patients and visitors throughout the facility
  • Perform general office duties
  • Organize fundraisers
  • Participate in community health fairs
  • Serve on hospital committees, auxiliary committees or the auxiliary board
  • Serve in specialty programs

What are Specialty Programs?

These volunteer placements may require special training require the volunteer to have experienced in certain areas, including:

  • Cancer survivor
  • Weight loss surgery
  • Ostomate
  • Serve as a Volunteer Adviser on hospital committees
  • Pet therapy escort
  • Visiting Angels: volunteers that provide companionship to hospitalized patients that do not have family support

How do I Become a Volunteer?

  • Fill out the volunteer services application
  • Meet with the Director of Volunteer Services to discuss your interests and availability. A one year commitment is required at a minimum of four hours per week.

If a placement is found for you, volunteers must complete the following requirements:

  • Submit to a criminal background screening
  • Complete a two-step TB screening
  • Complete a drug and nicotine screening
  • Receive a flu vaccine if applicable
  • Attend a general orientation session
  • Receive specific assignment training

What are the Opportunities for Student Volunteers?

Applications are accepted year round for college volunteer positions.

Applications for high school students are accepted January 1 through April 1 each year.

Eligible students must be at least 15 years old by January 1 of the year that he/she will volunteer and are considered in this category through the summer after high school graduation. Student volunteers must complete the volunteer services application by April 1st to be considered for a position. Group interviews will be held in April. 

One selections are made, student volunteers must complete the following for acceptance to be finalized:

  1. Submit for a background check
  2. Complete drug and nicotine screening
  3. Show documentation of immunization history
  4. Show documentation of TB skin test within 3 months of volunteer start date
  5. Attend volunteer orientation
  6. Complete required forms

Please note: individuals under the age of 18 must have parental consent for background screening and drug screening. A parent or legal guardian will also be required to sign forms authorizing volunteering at facility.

Students must be available to volunteer one full summer session (without interruption), either mornings or afternoons, Monday through Friday for four consecutive weeks in either June or July.

Due to the high volume of applications received, we request no phone calls to check on the status of the application. A representative of Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Carrollton will notify every applicant by email, whether or not they have been accepted into the program in late April.?
